While Don couldn't write music himself, faithful acolytes transcribed his tape recordings. As you say, Ian, underlying the apparent chaos is order - perhaps the equivalent of the 'strange attractors' in chaos theory.<br />Another oddity - despite the years-long association between Beefheart and Zappa, their only musical collaboration (aside from Zappa producing 'Replica') is 'Willy the Pimp' on Zappa's 'solo' album 'Hot Rats'.<br />I think that 'Clear Spot' remains my favourite Beefheart LP because it draws on such a wide range of musical styles/genres - or do I mean that it parodies them?
